I made single side version of the famous Dawdio!

Sua, my daughter, do play with my drawdio. Ye!

Drawdio use 555 IC to make noise sound! layada provide very nice description about how drawdio make sound.

you can buy original drawdio from layada. but buying from layada is too difficult for me. (international shipping) so, I made my own dawdio mod. SSrawdio!

I can find sch&brd files from layada. but I can’t afford TLC551 from my local electric shop. :(

555 is so famous IC. and verious manufacture make verious mod of 555. TLC551 low operaion voltage specific 555 which makes drawdio can run with only one AA battery.

Instead of TLC551 with AA battery, I use TLC555CP and -3V coin battery- CR2032. made single side board for DIY PCB. you can download my work(brd&sch) from click following image:

I made my PCB by toner transper method. google it.

Parts list:

  • speaker
  • socket for speaker
  • TLC555CP
  • pinheader 1×4 * 2,
  • CR2032 & battery holder
  • 100uF * 2
  • 2N2222
  • 2N2907
  • switch
  • 100K ohm
  • 300K ohm (220K works fine too)
  • 100nF
  • 680pF

Assemble it:

Single side have more limit to locate parts to good location. so I decided hide resistors below 555 IC to desize my drawdio. I used two 1×4 pinheader to socker for 555 IC.

Tack and connect it with copper tape. I used more soldering to insure cupper tape connected to the board.

You must check all connect connected with multimeter.

To connect drawdio to hand tape it like above image.

Let’s Playi:

Turn on switch, grab the pencil with one hand and touch the tact with the other hand. You can hear  the “beeeeep~”. all done!!

Let’s play with drawdio! Ye~!
